Florida State favored to repeat as BCS National Champions

A new season of college football is almost here and it’s never too early to look at the most intriguing teams in terms of talent and betting value. Keep in mind that next season will be the first to have a playoff system to determine the national champions instead of the BCS.

The Florida State Seminoles are +300 favorites to win the BCS National Championship for the second straight year. The Seminoles will have most of their starters back, including quarterback Jameis Winston, who is a favorite bet to join Archie Griffin as the second-ever two-time Heisman Trophy winner.

Winston’s favorite target Rashad Greene, who had nine catches for 147 yards against Auburn in the 2014 BCS National Championship Game, will return but Kelvin Benjamin, who caught the game-winning touchdown, declared for the NFL Draft. Florida State is still a dangerous team despite losing Benjamin and it will be interesting to see how Winston follows up his performance from last season.

Other short odds to win the 2015 BCS National Championship are Alabama (+600), Oregon (+700) and Ohio State (+950).

Alabama finished the regular season 11-1, which was a disappointment considering that they had won three of the last four national titles prior to losing out on the SEC title and falling in the Sugar Bowl to Oklahoma last year.

With quarterback Marcus Mariota returning for his senior season, Oregon is certainly a team to watch next season. The Ducks did lose wide receiver Josh Huff and running back/wide receiver De’Anthony Thomas, but replacing skill players hasn’t been a problem for them in the past.

Ohio State came close winning the Big Ten, losing to Michigan State in the conference title game. They were 24-0 under Urban Meyer prior to that loss and they followed that up with a 40-35 setback against Clemson in the Orange Bowl.

It’s worth noting that winning the 2015 BCS National Championship will be tougher, as the teams will need to win one extra game with college football ditching the BCS for a four-team playoff.
